Diversion
Noticing that the majority of my posts are related to my interest in popular(ish) music on what, I assume, most of you guys expect to be a more personal(ish) blog, I decided sometime ago that it might be kosher to start up a separate blog for all my music-related stuff. I figure everyone benefits this way. I could post willy-nilly about my thoughts on the music business without having to worry of boring or creating white noise, and you guys will never have to put up with it if you don’t want. I’ll probably still post some of the high-level stuff over here, but I’ll try to save the more indulgent posts for the music-specfic blog. I’m almost done with getting that up. There are just few more tweaks to do.
On that note, I wanted to mention that I recently picked up the new album by The Decemberists, a band that has grown in popularity on the indie scene and has just released their first album on a major label, Capitol. My sister introduced me to this band, and I got to see them at ACL Festival last year. This is a very neat band that combines classic narratives with a sort of an innovative folk-rock and, yes, even a little bit o’ the prog-rock. The music is catchy but intricate, and the new album, “The Crane Wife”, is very solid and maybe even their best. I’m going to see them in concert again later this month.

love the decemberists. my friend jeff introduced me to them a few years back. his big into irish(y) folk rock. i’m also a big fan of ugly casanova. i believe they were a shoot off of the decemberists, or maybe they had the same label, or maybe i simply heard about them at the same time so i associate the two together. either way, hotcha girls is my favorite song of theirs
I’m not enitrely that knowledgable of the alternative/indie scene (as it were), so I’ve never heard of Ugly Casanova. I maybe know about some of the more popular bands.
A bit of research says Ugly Casanova was founded by a member of Modest Mouse. Eh, I guess you were in the ballpark.
