Diamond in the Rough

This is a fascinating little article in the Washington Post where they tried an interesting experiment. They got a world-reknown classical musician to wear plain street clothes and play his multi-million dollar violin in the middle of the subway posing as a street musician. The results aren’t really surprising, but it’s neat the read the responses of both the musician, who is used to playing filled halls at more than $100 a seat, and some of the passer-bys.

“You don’t know what it’s like / To be male, middle-class and white!”

That’s a small nod to those down with The Folds(TM).

Here’s an article about race and Second Life. I don’t have a lot to say about it, but I find this kind of stuff extremely fascinating.

Lifehacker lists best applications of 2006

Lifehacker, a blog about using new technology and apps for practical living, has listed what it thinks are the best applications of 2006. A lot of the software listed are free, and some of you may be interested in taking advantage of what they recommend. Free VPN software, woohoo!

Ryo Uses My Photos

I just recently discovered that some of the pictures I took from the Spock’s Beard show in Ft. Worth have ended up on the website for their keyboardist, Ryo Okumoto. You can see them here. I think it’s pretty neat and I’m honored that he wanted to use my photos.

Street Fighter: The Later Years

Because Tom is as tired of looking at the picture below as I get when I look at his ugly mug, here’s something to entertain you.

Someone somewhere is producing a series of short episodes called Street Fighter: The Later Years, which is a satriical look at what the “real life” characters from Street Fighter II are doing ten years after the height of their popularity. Very amusing stuff.
