It’s nearly been two months since my last post, and it’s roughly about the same thing!

So apparently Amazon’s MP3 store is doing a “daily deal” thing in which they sell old and classic albums for really cheap, and that seems to be how I caught Steely Dan’s “Aja” that way. Today, they are selling a classic album from one of my very favorite bands, Rush. Permanent Waves is regarded as one of Rush’s best albums and is considered to be in the same league as the classics Moving Pictures and 2112. And you can buy it today for only 99 cents + tax from Amazon.com. There is no cheaper (legal) way to get some Rush music into your library, and I would highly recommend getting it.

This is probably a fluke, and maybe they’ll correct it soon, or whatever. However, for some reason, Amazon is offering the classic Steely Dan album “Aja”, the WHOLE THING, as a high-quality MP3 download for 99 cents. That’s a great deal no matter how you slice it. “Aja” is probably Steely Dan’s most popular album, and for a dollar, it’s defintely worth a download. Get it while you can, I guess?

The seminal Rush album “Moving Pictures”, which includes their best known classics like “YYZ”, “Limelight”, and “Tom Sawyer”, will be available for download and play on Rock Band this Tuesday. All tracks are supposedly taken from their masters. What should be truly interesting is that it will include the rarely-played live but often-requested track “The Camera Eye”, so fans can at least pretend to play the track in its whole 11 minute glory.

I recently got tickets to see David Byrne at the Paramount here in Austin. The show is billed as “David Byrne performs the songs of David Byrne & Brian Eno”. Many years ago, they put out an album that became an underground classic called “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts”. It’s been nearly 30 years since the release of that album.

Recently, they have collaborated again to make an album where the two strictly stayed in defined realms of the songwriting partnership: Eno would write the music, and Byrne would write the lyrics and vocal melodies. The result is their new album “Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.” The best thing is you can listen to the whole album, right now, in the little Flash widget down below.
